We had quite the rainy weather last week and we were stuck inside! I had to dig deep into my craft bin to try and find some little projects for the kids to do. Between our birthday decorations and me always saving paper towel and toilet paper rolls, we had so much fun making our little monster rolls!
You will need:
- Toilet paper rolls
- Washable paint
- Paint brushes
- Googley eyes – we bought the giant pack from Walmart back in March 2020 and we still have a ton left from it for crafts!
- Glue
- Streamers – you could also use string or ribbon, just something to give them a tail!
- Scissors
- Pipe cleaners
Let’s get to work!

Start by covering your table with a table cloth, or we use broken down cardboard boxes! The kids always add a little extra paint to them every time which is fun. The first step is to paint your toilet paper rolls. We used Halloween colors for ours to keep our theme!

Let the painted rolls completely dry. We let ours sit on the counter during Payton’s nap time! Once they are dry, grab your glue and googley eyes. Add as many as you want to each tube. Let the glue dry before the next step.

While the glue is drying, take the time to cut your streamers, ribbon, or string. We used four streamers for each monster, but you can add as many as you want! Glue them to the inside bottom of the tubes.
Plan to hang them up not only to dry, but also to add some Halloween decorations to your home! We hung ours on our dining room light with pipe cleaners. The pipe cleaners kind of added more features to our monsters so I recommend using those!
I’ve noticed as Carter has gotten older how proud he is of his projects that he does. And now with our new monsters hanging up, he never misses a chance to point them out or talk about them. It is so sweet! Payton just enjoys getting messy when we do crafts, but that’s okay in my book too lol. If you decide to make your own monsters, tag me in your photos! It’s always fun to see people using our recipes or project ideas in their own homes. And with this one, it’s perfect with Halloween just around the corner!
Lots of love & God Bless,
-Alyssa
