Homemade Eggrolls

I’ve always liked egg rolls from Chinese restaurants.  My mother-in-law made them for Jeff when he was growing up.  Jeff loves them, so I decided to learn to make them on my own and with my own twist!  I was super happy that they turned out so well, that I had to share the recipe with everyone!  Check it out below, and I hope you enjoy them too!  Besides normal cookware, you will need a deep fryer for this recipe.  But you can also just make them in a pot with oil!

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs ground venison, or whichever meat you prefer
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 2 packages of Asian Slaw, I found this in the produce aisle at Walmart so I didn’t have to chop up the cabbage and the rest of the veggies.   Made it way easier!
  • 1 quart peanut oil
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 12 egg roll wrappers, which I also found right next to the Asian slaw at the store!

Directions:

  1. Turn on your deep fryer, and get the oil warming up to 350 degrees.
  2. Brown your ground venison, or whichever meat you choose, on medium high.  Add in the seasonings, (garlic powder, ground ginger, salt, pepper), and cook until no longer pink.
  3. Add in the Asian slaw to the meat and mix it up well.
  4. In a small bowl, combine the flour and water. This helped me make a little paste to bring the final corners together on the egg roll wrappers.
  5. Open the egg roll wrapper package and set them on a damp paper towel.  Take one egg roll wrapper and place one of the points towards you.  I stuffed mine a little thick, so I suggest about 1/4 cup of meat mixture per egg roll.  Fold the corner closest to you inwards, then follow with the left side, and then the right side.  Rub a tiny amount of flour paste on the last corner to secure the wrapper.
  6. Make sure your fryer is ready and your oil is hot!  Place two egg rolls in the fryer.  Let the rolls fry for about 20 seconds, and then turn them over to remain cooking.  When the egg rolls start to brown, remove from the fryer, and place on a baking sheet lined with paper towel.  I actually noticed that as they sat and cooled, they turned more brown! Keep this in mind.

Serve with some sweet chili sauce, or whichever sauce you prefer and enjoy!!
